Adapted to my (growing) problem

posted in humour |

I wonder where I can borrow a goat or two. After a session with the weed whacker, and a certain numbness in my arms, I keep thinking that there has to be a better way to keep the yard trimmed. Short of a pave and paint (rather extreme), I can either go for the wild garden form factor, or adopt some sure-footed allies. Lacking a barn and winter feed facilities, the loaner goat seems like the solution most adapted to my (growing) problem.

Meanwhile, we surprised a young cyclist in the middle of the next field. Busy taking candid photos of his “ride” against a backdrop of waving grains, as near as we could tell. He was hailed, and it seems he’s visiting down below for the next few weeks. I’ll be on the lookout for other, odd shows of “city kid in country setting”. Might be an idea for a movie.

We had visitors this afternoon. Gary and Jeanette. They camp (or more precisely, RV) here each summer, and had an in on our planning sessions around the kitchen shelter table over the last few summers. A quick visit to see that we had actually survived the winter (people fear for city folks – see the previous paragraph).

We’re doing just fine, folk watchers. I mean, beside the yearning for loaner goats. We’ve figured out that the skills we mastered in suburbia do carry over to a rural setting. We now live in harmony with our nearest neighbours: hares, chipmunks, coyotes. Just don’t get me started on the chorus canines.
