The genesis of a genealogist?

posted in environment |

Shortly after our move (to the new house), we decided to immerse ourselves in our new community by attending the local trivia evening. Good fun, even though we knew only a “scattering” among the faces. And then summer changed to winter, and we stopped going out.

Tonight, in a nod to spring, we returned for another trivia evening. In a snow storm, no less. The kind that required pulling over to reclear the headlights. Anyhow, we ended up teaming with the same people, and we didn’t finish last (an important distinction). Have to replenish the stock of loose quarters before we attempt to show off how much we don’t know about a lot of things in future.

I’m continuing to assemble my wooden frames. Out of mercy for my blistered palms, the decision has been made to purchase a battery powered driver. After all, with the right tools, more jobs get done. That’s my story…

My book order from Ireland finally arrived. I’ll be adapting my home study program; away from an app based process to something more structured. Actual grammar rules. I’m ready. My ear is improving, and I find myself pulling names for object out of the newly trained brain. A bog, anyone?

Showing the kid a little more local geography/history. With a winter under his belt, the names and places are actually making sense. He can now name an impressive number of his forebears, in correct order. Could this be the genesis of another genealogist? For sure, only time will tell. I’ll be there to offer supporting documentation, at least.
