Encouraged to rest, often
So, what did you do today? Nothing. And yesterday? Nothing. What’s planned for tomorrow? Nothing. (I sense a trend developing here).
Hard to believe that my life was once an example of ordered discipline. Able to count the minutes remaining in the work day. Willing to get up, pretty much every morning, without the assistance of my treasured alarm clock. I caught the bus, always. Now, I would have to work on that whole work thing. Last night, I stayed up way past my bedtime. This morning, I did get out of bed. So far, so good. Except that I’m accused of snoring… on the couch, in the armchair, while simply resting my head on a convenient pillow. Decades of obedience to a routine, gone. What have I become?
Maybe the blame should be placed near the dog. He’s a bad example! Look; moved from one resting state to another. Yes, there are moments where he runs (full tilt) to see if there is a car on the highway, or new food possibilities in another room. A few exceptions do not make him into a role model. And my odd moments of repose? Beside him on the couch, or on the bed. If the armchair was larger, we’d share that, too. Could it be that he’s the one sucking my life force dry? No wonder we were discouraged from bringing pets to work. I can easily imagine the secretarial pool in emulation mode of their favourite lapdogs. Or lap cats. Equal opportunity.
Perhaps the winter will inspire me.
This evening, the whole family took an impulse excursion to the big light, down at the end of the road. We had heard that the aurora borealis might be active… for a change, no cloud cover, but the “other” big light in the eastern sky (the Christmas Moon) meant that we saw nothing out of the ordinary. For the record, the surround sound of waves on rocks was much better than anything my home theatre provides.
