Off the grid for the morning
I came awake to the sound of the laser printer exercising, but quickly decided that this was a symptom, not a cause. The generator had kicked in with that growl I’m still learning to appreciate, and even though the light was still on in the kitchen, we had moved from grid to self-sufficiency. With my ‘net feed sustained, Twitter confirmed that I had joined a community of close to twenty thousand “in the dark” residents.
Over the next couple of hours (we had started about 05h15), school delays were announced, son #3 had no reason to dress for work, and the news mentioned the snapping of an important electrical pole by a misguided automobile. And in keeping with the “one step away from disaster” mentality of our utility shareholders, the lights remained out for the majority for another seven hours. My genny seems like a sound investment, now.
While I was away for a recharge of the pantry and storm chip stocks, the courier arrived with box #3 from the Irish retailer. I now have a proper bike rack, and there’s a racked basket on the other velo. Progress toward spring, if nothing else. We’re waiting for a snow storm to kick into gear this evening, to confirm the prospect of winter.
Curling is back on TV. So far, Team Homan is 4-0, which means that the channel can safely ignore her games and leave us with other, less talented talent. My preference is to watch top notch, but I’m just the guy in the cheap seats. All said, the calibre of this tournament is excellent.
