A little less shabby, don’t you think?

posted in computing |

Yes, I’ve cleaned up around the place. A new coat of paint, some better curtains. Hope you don’t mind, but even complacent individuals feel the need to renew their surroundings. It didn’t cost much either; somebody left a theme out on the Internet, and the foundations were upgraded by the developers. I just spent some time in finagle mode.

My whole rationale for getting into a self-hosted blog was that the upgrades would be easy and according to my timetable. When there was a major snag in the database structure needed for my former theme package, I decided to wait out the stormy weather; after a winter of worry (Is it secure?), the chance to upgrade by altering another theme was worth the effort.

This version supports widgets – it’s important when you want to use the sidebars to do something other than frame the page. I decided to give up some older code; nobody cares what the temperature is here, ever. The various graphic links (look low on the left) were easily transported, and after a quick lesson in hex colour codes the text went from a pale grey to whatever it is now (darker, legible).

The whole movement in WordPress was leaving me behind, so now I can continue to evolve/devolve in concert with hundreds of thousands of others. Just like joining a concert band, and we know how basic tuba players are to those groups. In harmony, again.

Now to sit back and wait for the praise to roll in from around the globe.
