The autonomous test, passed
Sometime after one in the morning. I’m awake, reading and waiting. On schedule, the house goes dark, and within fifteen seconds the lights came back up. As a background theme, the roar of a two cylinder motor. Our generator has passed its test; by extension, we’re now “autonomous”, as long as I keep the pair of propane tanks filled. A lot of planning and research went into this, and the only secret was the final price (yes, higher than I had hoped). Part of the package.
I’ve learned that “sitting comfortably” is now synonymous with “falling asleep”. It might be in function with what I read, but the couch might be too soft and warm. No matter. When my snoring gets too loud, the others let me know about it. Dog excepted. He tends to share my space.
We didn’t leave the premises, today. Our neighbour stopped by to deliver some of the forgotten objects from last evening. The car; it just sat there. Temperatures are dropping, and for one short instance, the windows rattled with a quick fall of hail. Or snow pellets… hard to tell the difference. I might have to install the winter tires before much longer. Wait for a sunny day, etc. Or go up the road to the garage and beg/pay for assistance. We shall see.
The editorials from across the country are contradictory. The only given is that starting tomorrow morning, for a short twelve hours, those who care will mark ballots. That’s how we pay for the right to complain, in Canada.
