The liability monster

posted in environment |

The family survived “meeting Monday”. By some odd coincidence, everyone had committments, this evening. Even the dog, who I nominated as head car guard while I attended a session “off campus”. The others had their first turn as hosts of their group; more preparation than I would have thought, but we do what we have to do, each according to our means.

I left early, and the dog and I headed over to the lighthouse to see if we could spot whales, or sinking ships. Neither in view, but I noticed that the old road that used to go down to the beach is now behind a large fence, on posted property. The liability monster strikes again. Few landowners want to take on the risk of a silly tourist trying to defy gravity from their cliff edge.

Fast forward several hours. My secretarial efforts complete, I headed home, but the driveway was still occupied territory. Back to the point, where I took the time to tune up and down the radio dial. AM is a desert, although I did get a clear signal from VOCM. On the FM side, nothing new; the presets now reflect what we can hear, instead of what we “used to” hear.

Back home; still too early to avoid the tail end of the other session. I do have past experience with plant germination, so the conversation had familiar elements. The planned flower beds are now almost ready to receive the first round of seedlings, apparently. Guess I’d better find my shovel and imagination.
