Installing instead of planning

posted in environment |

My productivity has been dropping, ever since I accepted this new lifestyle. Retired. Able to extend a single job into something that gives purpose to long period of time. However, today I decided to move on a project that has been waiting for effort.

We now have three more doors installed, in the basement. Not trimmed; in fact, the shims need to be cut away first. But, I can put a check mark beside this job as “underway”, which is somehow more interesting than “to be started”. Those YouTube video sessions paid off. Getting the doors aligned on three planes (go ahead, count them) actually made sense, and the packs of shims that we purchased (ages ago, it seems) were the right thing. Next up, measuring the casings and getting them home in the back of the car.

We also did something completely out of character, this evening. The local community centre puts on a “Wings and Trivia” night, for modest cost, and we filled the car and had a table. And a team, after accepting a singleton from the hall. Did OK, too. Tied for second place. Which gave us some candy bars as a reward…

The dog stood guard in the car, all evening. I’m not sure if he was ever tied in, but when I went out to check, he had a comfortable perch in the front passenger seat. At least he hasn’t figured out how to use the horn, unlike certain of his predecessors. We did hear coyotes, once we got home; I don’t know if they cover the territory between here and the hall.
