Visit in stealth mode

The evening news brought fascinating images. Our current prime minister is on an officially secretive visit to Afghanistan (secret for reasons of security). There, he spoke of the importance of our mission there, while admiring the inukshuk and grabbing a photo opportunity at the controls of a Hercules aircraft.
My own feeling is that it bore the signs and importance of a school trip. and the resemblance to an earlier photo opportunity by the southern neighbour dressed in fighter pilot gear was, in Mastercard terms, priceless.
The role of our military is one thing; the role of the prime minister, however ephemeral his tour of duty, is quite different. I guess things are quiet on a Sunday in Ottawa.
