Prepare to banish the darkness
Last evening, we listened to the coyotes, somewhere down at the bottom of the field. Romantic, except for the fear that our fearless dog might not fare well in an unscheduled meeting of noses. Which led to a reminder that the “magic eye” lights for outside were still packed in their original boxes, and wouldn’t it be nice if we could get them up and out where we could see what waited in the gathering gloom. Message received.
This morning, with sunshine on my side, I headed out with the stepladder and a few tools. Get the “stock” lights out of the eaves. No big deal; you cut the electricity, loosen a few strategic bolts and the whole thing comes down. With the way clear, I summoned my tag team partner for some quality ladder time.
Those of us who rarely have to work at installations any higher than eye level are left with a sense of awe for those who do. Our muscles cramp up, which isn’t particularly useful for any kind of manual labour. With time, patience and common sense, the two new fixtures were mounted and armed (yes, that’s what the manual calls “setting the motion detection to ready”. Unfortunately, the sensor is only sensitive in darkness, and we’re now counting down the minutes to nightfall.
(Test conducted; conclusive)
Our neighbour from the set of cottages down the hill also stopped by to visit. After all, we’re new, and novel.
And as a celebration (of sorts), I went for takeout pizza. The trip back from the resto is only twenty minutes; about the same as in the big city.
