New toys for my future appraisal

posted in technology |

Settle down; I’m not there and I don’t have the money to enjoy what has been introduced, but CES 2008 is underway. Neat new toys for the boys in about six months, when my local big box store will have some of the articles in stock. Until then, I can fantasize about how much better my life would be with a new 150 inch TV, running some neat Blu-ray movie in surround sound through 78 inch speaker stacks. Wait, my house isn’t even big enough!

Therein lies the difficulty; the reality check. Yes, there will be new electronic goods to buy for next year. Yes, there have been new goods every year since my arrival on the planet. No sense losing perspective.

I can probably afford to purchase some new wireless headphones; after all, they won’t be nearly as loud as the speaker stack, so the rest of the family can relax. No wall-to-wall fiddles any time soon.

The solar laptop bag; well, I’m already down on that idea. My collection of solar panels is growing every time they go on sale. If we could just get a few sunny days… Network storage; just the place to store those 30 meg RLL drives I’ve kept around in the basement. Imagine, I could have ten songs “on call”. I don’t need any more digital cameras, and a GPS is highly impractical when you don’t leave home (with or without it). The one gadget that has caught my attention is a USB to VGA adaptor. I need one.

There, I have summed up the show for myself. On other fronts, I watched a really neat video of some guy constructing his vacuum tubes from scratch. Now that’s a true electronic show.
