When all else fails, bake a cake or two
The first of the primaries is over, and the official race to get in the race to be president is underway. Between now and November, the candidates will spend enough contribution cash to run a small country. At least it will give the average world citizen something to talk/blog about, and if CNN continues to explain the process, maybe those of us that though democracy was based on the one person one vote ideal will finally understand that it’s all about the money.
It’s really winter here, so son #2 has taken his new snowshoes and headed off for some uphill walking in the Gaspé hills. I envy him. His youth. His time off from “his job”. The ability to do the things I used to try to do. Now I’m going to have to live it vicariously. Getting old isn’t really all that much fun, after all.
I’ve been shopping and buying on eBay; local stores can’t deliver what I’m after so it’s time to let my dollars go to somebody in a distant city. There’s no doubt about it; this holiday my gift budget has been squeezed into the wires, over and over again. It’s really much easier than trying to convince poorly paid associates in the retail industry to help with my simple questions. Today’s quest was rather simple; a particular format of memory card for the usual hungry electronic device. There wasn’t enough commission (profit) for the various smocked experts in my big box store to extend a helping hand. Now they don’t need to. The transaction will involve the man who places stuff in my postal box. End of story.
I went a little overboard this afternoon (stir crazy) and made two large carrot cakes “from scratch”. Thankfully there’s a food processor, because chopping a kilo of carrots is dull work. Now I’ve got enough pleasure food to keep the household happy for a day or two, and I can say that I’ve cooked something vaguely healthy. Carrots are good for you. They help you to see in the dark, right? I’ll be able to hide the flashlights if current tendencies continue.
