Options abound
I’ve found a new way to make my brain explode: shop online for appliances. Could the sites offer any less useful detail?
The premise is simple. With a new house, do we really want to load a half-ton of “cooking and cleaning and cooling” onto that big truck? Maybe we can abandon what we have to a new owner (here) and drop the cash for appliances with warranties. Pick a colour (is stainless the new avocado?). Respect the size of the holes in the cabinet line. Ignore common sense; the budget is whatever the dealers want it to be. And then, the crucial detail. Find a dealer that will DELIVER.
Not easy. When you read the “fine print”, many places don’t/won’t/can’t. Or, for an extra fee (as much as 10%), the truck will drop that oversize treasure chest at your doorstep; you can then power lift (levitate?) things into the kitchen. And collapse until the ambulance arrives. They, at least, will put you on a dolly.
I’m dreaming about lift straps, and dollies, and waiting for friends to call.
Back to product descriptions. Ask a kid in kindergarten to draw a refrigerator or kitchen stove. As much detail as the websites offer. Do you want the freezer to be over or under? Should the main door be single or “French”? Leftie or rightie? It matters. Is the stove “free standing” or “built in”? Single or double oven? Conduction? Induction? Gas or electric? So many options… Might have to go to a local store and stare, while avoiding someone on a commission.
