Missing furniture
When the DG (an abbreviation for The Boss) meets you in the parking lot, before starting time, it can either be a happy circumstance, or a sign that things are going to begin on a “Code Red” level. The network was down, and that leaves a lot of people turning their thumbs and wondering how to get their daily fix of data. It doesn’t happen on a regular basis, happily.
And so, as other members of our team came in, we started “calling up” server consoles, to see where things had failed. In this case, on offsite hard drive didn’t answer in sequence, and in the world of virtualized servers…. important! It took three people to get things back on the rails, and the start of the work day was delayed by about forty-five minutes.
Not the only delay in my day. On Friday, I had emptied three cubicles. The replacement furniture didn’t make it on time. In fact, three people had to find other things to do for the whole morning. We’re in provincial exams (important stuff, as well), so I set one person up with a temporary installation. Or perhaps it was a preview of how things will be, in a time of budget restrictions.
The furniture did arrive, and the area took on its new and improved status before my missed lunch had settled.
Funny how things go, though.
Looking forward to vacation; only eight more working days. Best start convincing the dog that life by the seashore is good for him, too.
