The decision (of a lifetime)

posted in environment |

Let the countdown begin. For real. After careful calculation, and consultation and a few other ten cent words, today I made my decision.

The letter was based on one written by a friend; in a second language context, no sense in appearing more foolish than usual. Addressed to the director of human resources, with a carbon copy to my immediate superior, a one page summary of my intention to retire from the cubicle life and move on. Now, less than five months (mainly vacation time) and I will move from one phase to another. Was I stressed about it? Yes. Am I still stressed about it? Yes, but for different reasons. Let’s be frank; you don’t do this kind of thing very often in a lifetime.

I received a quick email from the phone company this morning. The work phone company. My ticket about failure to answer in a school facility turned out to be a correctable error. Someone had forwarded the main line to an extension that didn’t exist. Makes a mess out of the whole VOIP logic. I’m glad that the fix is in, and that I can mark another one as “not a problem, any more”.

They’re still looking for the three (former) prisoners who left a local jail by chartered helicopter. The story continues to take “wings”; police had stopped in to see the three lads, letting them know that the plan was out, and that there was no sense continuing to dream. Guess that such warnings don’t have much weight, when your helicopter is inbound, and you’re outbound. The police know that only two bird fit the equipment profile, but no solution is in view. I sense a bad TV movie in the offing.
