Little news for a little day

posted in politics |

Some days are weak on the news front. I still take the time to listen, but like everyone else, I’m just going through the motions. Good news is hard to come by sometimes.

The provincial government didn’t fall before a vote of non-confidence. I’m going to grade that story as neutral, because a minority government is always balanced on “the edge”. This just means that our next turn at the polls will come when the weather is better.

The municipal campaign is underway, with fifteen candidates for the vacant mayoral chair. My own choice is made, but it’s still amusing to watch the debate clips. So many people with nothing to say. Hopefully the next few weeks won’t bring any big stories, because we need a calm, boring city council. It’s a tradition.

The federal wild dogs are back tearing at the bones of another scandal that refuses to disappear. Again, my feelings on this one are clear-cut, but it’s fun to see the pros and cons of investigations. Some would hope that the public is tired of the circus. That “some” seems to closely resemble the group that has the most to lose if scandal is proven.

We’ve had our first snowfall, but all it means is that I’ll have to stop putting the dog outside in my bare feet. Snow between the toes is unpleasant, and I really should make a vow to wear shoes until the grass starts to grow again.

I found a place for the displaced television; now when son #3 is truly annoying with his choice of programs, he can go and annoy himself in his own space. For the cost of some coaxial cable and a splitter, I’ve added to the karma around here.

A long-time family friend passed away today, and I’m glad I had a chance to visit with him this summer. My condolences to his family. As the next few years go by, I’m bound to lose the generation that taught me much of what I know.
