Better sound than my earphones for outdoors

posted in technology |

Recently, on an episode of Glee, I watched Santana dancing through a basement with something that looked like an oversize Lego brick. The “what could it be?” urge sent me searching, and with the help of YouTube and Google Goggles, I learned that it might be a Jawbone. Pardon the code; a particular model of Bluetooth speaker that seems to have quite a following among the technologically equipped.

TV shows can afford toys. The rest of us shop, and save, and rationalize for several days (weeks) before plunging into yet another gadget acquisition moment. I decided, on the basis of needing something louder than my earphones for camping comfort, to head on over to the box store. Of course, the choice was impressive, and set at a number of competing price points. FWIW, the little Jawbone just wasn’t enough to justify my money, but a competing store brand left me with a large box to bring home. Trophy!

We’re now testing the Rocketfish, which is large, and heavy, and weather resistant. Important detail for anyone going camping in Canada. The connection to a variety of media devices via Bluetooth is simple, and the sound didn’t get “under my skin”, yet. We have a fourteen day period to evaluate, and as long as the box remains available, I can delay my decision. Tomorrow and tomorrow, etc.

A dandelion is trying to push its way through the new blacktop. A credit to nature, a brickbat to the shady contractor. Not sure how we’re going to handle this one.  “You get what you pay for” isn’t always true.
