Locking in the summer plan

posted in education |

My life is proving to be circular. Forty years ago, I made a snap decision to enroll in summer school. The whole deal, including finding accommodations and transportation, in a very narrow window of opportunity. I did it, and set the lifeboat on a whole new course. Trivial pursuit question material. Anyhow.

This evening, I’m helping someone else with a snap decision. Whole deal, with a dog thrown in for icing on the proverbial muffin. Turns out that a valid credit card is better than oars in such waters. We’ll drive east, drop the student, set up with the dog and the TV, etc. For ten days… or we can find a quiet beach and I can teach the dog to fish. Practical education.

The details don’t matter, since there are weeks to go before we travel. Enough time to test the tent and mattresses.

Just watched Howard and Penny get engaged. It’s a TBBT thing.

At work, the reception of a king’s ransom in wifi access point started, this morning. Amazing to see so much hardware which we (meaning the other techs) will carefully cache above the ceiling tiles, all around the board. Connectivity is finally more important than anything else. As someone who started with a 300 baud modem and patience, the idea of moving (seamlessly) from room to room to building is modern magic. Imagine what things will be like, one generation from now. Go ahead. I’ll not be validating your responses. Safe to say that it won’t require the effort it did, thirty years ago.
