Emancipation of the elite

posted in politics |

The Internet gives us a glimpse, sometimes, of how others respond to things we consider commonplace. Consider winter. Around here, we have months and months of practice, year after year. Elsewhere. Let’s be kind and say that it’s a question of practice.

Consider Georgia. The US state. Where it snowed, a little, this week. On YouTube, video after video, showing that friction does make things easier. Imagine traffic speeds of 0.2 mph. Imagine getting your car to turn 360 degrees, at low speed. Had enough? If this was a new experience, I’d be more sympathetic. But the videos can be filtered by date of upload, and the similarity, year after year, shows that not all drivers are created equal.

Moving right along (at more than 0.2 mph). Today, JT (that’s Justin, son of Pierre, son of Charles-Emile) did something completely unexpected. He undid the chains that bind, and returned all the senators branded as Liberals back into Independents. Representatives of their own regions, capable of sober second thought. Able to work without direct orders from the Leader. And I, like many others, am impressed. Emancipation of the elite. Pity that Mr Harper, who has expressed his desire for change was unable to find the key to those chains.

There are still many, many more to set free. Make it so, Stevie! And stop blaming the members of the NDP ,who own no slaves senators, for all that is wrong with the Upper Chamber.

Who knows what wonders we’ll see, tomorrow? Probably just more of the same.
