Car trumps bus, again and again
As someone who gets paid to support users in the computer world, I have a decent familiarity with the things you can or can’t ask the average user to do. Some things are better done for John or Jane, because they aren’t going to “make it on their own”. Right now, I’m creating a bootable installer of Mavericks on a USB key. In simplest terms, the task is way too difficult to ever catch on. Say what you will about the ease of use of the Mac, it doesn’t cover everything. Rant mode off.
During supper, I sat through the kind of movie that leaves me wanting a “hosts” file on the cable TV. Just to avoid ever having to spend time like that, again. The movie, Holly’s Holiday, left me wanting to scream. Think of a famous painting: I was there. Holy cow! Who allows this sort of thing into a place where the public might stumble (and fall).
Son #1 received his driving permit earlier this week. Son #1 has been a user of public transit for years now. Son #1 is shopping for a car (despite budget constraints). The politicians in charge of the city bus system should take notice; it takes only hours to spoil a user, once other options are available. Think about it. We spend a great deal of public monies trying to keep the bus on schedule. The product pales, when compared to “the freedom of the personal car”. I’m an exception to that rule, but that’s a whole other tale.
