New buds

posted in economy |

They stay in! Success. For those who wonder what set that off, it’s easy. I just purchased a set of ear buds (to listen to my MP3 player). After refusing to accept that the last pair would remain in place in direct proportion to my index of immobility, it was time for change. Here’s the catch. Stores package ear buds as eye catchers; you can’t try them before laying down the “cash or Chargex”. Not much of an incentive for companies to improve things.

Tonight’s purchase was an impulse. The new ones are black (to match my mood on the bus), the cable is flat (to reduce the “deknitting” exercise each time I want a break from road noise, and there’s a built-in microphone to permit greater integration of the cellphone into my life. Or not. I have call display, and answering is a carefully weighed response to the recognition factor of the incoming number. Works. Haven’t had any offers to go for an ocean cruise…

We were out for supper at a local Greek place (franchise Greek, but the food was still good) and after finishing with our meals in an increasing louder room (hit 83 dB), the idea of getting ear buds just came to me. Also sprung for a silicone shell for one of the Playbooks. At $0.97, I’ll get another one before too much time goes by. And another USB key, to archive my Mavericks download.

And now we’re home, and the evening is passing. Time to listen to my ageing body and go sleep. Until the morning comes, or earlier. Flex time.
