Return to a good restaurant
Although those immediately concerned had been surveyed for availability and interest, by the time a long day in the trenches of school or office were over, the head count for a birthday supper was down to three. A magical, intimate supper for three. Parents, love your children well.
Another year older and no visible signs; the rest of us should be so fortunate. Son #3 was willing to accompany his parents for supper in a restaurant (training from summer vacation, obviously), so we headed out in heavy dark clouds and showers for the upper town. Our goal was to return to the primary Indian restaurant in the Montcalm district; Garam Massala (see my experience here from almost a year ago) .
This time around, the place wasn’t shoulder-to-shoulder full, although the volume level from the birthday group across the room was big and brassy. I’m not able to live moments that publicly. The waiter was on top of things and we soon had an entree plate of things that I still can’t name, as well as some Nan bread and what must be the Indian alternative to salsa involving oil and carrots. Tasty.
We are newbies, so we trusted the advice of our waiter and chose a sampler of various foods. Excellent food, great quantity and a price that is very reasonable – under $70 for the three of us. I’m going to have to do some serious reading if I ever want to “bring the recipes home” because the low light levels have made indentification of the different plates cursory. Rice is easy, and the beef that made me thing BBQ should be easy. The chicken in an orange sauce… the spicy potatoes… the different veggie dishes… all a mystery. Tasty mysteries are good for the soul.
Rue Cartier is under heavy construction these months. Parking is at a premium. Still, my favourite magazine shop was open on a Tuesday evening, and the rain was warm enough to be only an aggravation. We headed back home to slowly wind down our day. The week is far from over.
