Misdelivery
There’s something about the delivery portion of e-commerce that leaves me perplexed. Given the number of times I have had to deal with “exceptions”, and extrapolated out to the real world; how does anything get delivered? Is it just chance?
Last week, on a special request, I ordered one of the new Maya trailers that were showcased on Dragons’ Den. No comment on the product (I haven’t opened the box yet), but there was a sale going on. Their online site welcomed me, and made me a member without delay. My item cleared their online shopping cart step without difficulty. I completed the billing/shipping addresses and waited for the “en toute” email. All in order.
This morning, the courier site confirmed that my box was out for delivery, and by mid-morning announced that delivery had occurred. Off I went to the receiving area of our office building. Nothing. Up to the front door, in case the delivery man had taken the easy way in. Nothing. Back to check the website. And here’s where it got “strange”. The delivery had been signed for by son #3, at home. Where the box had been delivered, in spite of my shipping instructions.
Now, some times you win. In this case, I didn’t have to carry a 10Kg carton along at the end of the day, when I took the bus home in a rain shower. The question remains. How often do shippers ignore the client instructions and just play it by ear. It’s not my first time with misdelivered stuff.
