Dune domains

posted in travel |

Given the number of cottages that are nestled in the dunes, a lot of people have been misled by the movies. I can’t figure out any other reason for the places we spotted, this afternoon.

The wind blew hard last night. Maybe those cottages were tossed ashore. Anyhow, after my period with a camera, in those same dunes, waiting for the sun to rise, I believe that there are warmer places to lay down roots. The sunrise was worth the wait, but I did have to dress warmly, and my feet would have profited from a couple of pairs of thick socks.

This was a good day for laundry. Still too windy for biking, and surf warnings out for swimmers. The machines were available, and we now have enough folded tees to get through to home.

Chowder for lunch, and then a wander period in the area around the Greenwich dunes. Hence the reference to houses in the sands. I’m guessing that the properties all belong to sunstruck tourists, who never try to spend a weekend once the snows begin. Really off the beaten track.

We received a welcome invitation to a sit down supper with relatives, and we were happy to catch up on the passage of another year. They’ve been playing the retired game for two decades now and still believe in the benefits. What I need to hear, as I try to imagine life on the other side of the alarm clock.

And now we’re back in a very dark camp. The moon has passed, and the meteor showers are still a night or two away.
