Delayed news about the rain

posted in Wx |

Not the intention, but the local evening news seems doomed to be a day late (and a dollar short). This evening, we learned that it rained over the weekend. Why, yes it did! Heard it on the roof. Heard it on the windows and doors. Saw the pool peak sometime before midnight.

To be fair, the televised images were from other parts of the city. Water doing a geyser out of manholes. People trying to find their cars in water reaching their knees near the local cinema. Front lawns converted into lakefront property. No boating allowed. Thankfully, I live on higher ground, but for those that insist on building near the lovely meandering stream,  you are destined to get your feet wet, over and over again. I’m sure the insurance companies have your file flagged. Blame the city, it you think it will help, but we’ve got an arena to build. Other priorities no longer are.

The office mail update mentions a group photo, tomorrow. Either we do it outside where I become the squinting guy in the back row, or we do it inside (where I’ll probably still squint, but the lack of depth of field will mask my effort). Note to self; try to dress with wisdom, because group pics tend to hang around (on a wall in a central hallway) for years to come.

And in the office context, I’m on a roll. Started distributing those shiny new laptops this afternoon. People love it when they get new stuff (especially if the cost is covered by someone with a better budget envelope.)
