Renewing the netbook build
Renewal. Works for so many things, like personal computers. For very close to four years now, I’ve been dragging a netbook along on vacation; size does matter. And after the last trip, when I realized that “full hard drive” is not something to strive for, the idea has been simmering about a small upgrade. With a larger drive left over from another upgrade, it was time to rebuild the holiday machine.
First thing, I don’t need to have a triple boot system. Once the next version of Mint is available, I’ll add a second starter, but Win 7 will do. Swapping out the drive took minutes, given that I’ve had the back off the machine from time to time and know how many screws to slack. With a new drive in place, the format and update phase was just one more thing to do on a quiet afternoon (the pool pump also distracted me for a bit). Now, I have to transfer important data, after I stop erasing stuff. Yes, in a moment of distraction, I deep-sixed almost 18,000 ebooks. There is software to repair stupidity, and the unerase step was merely a way to recognize that it only takes an instant to ruin things.
Meanwhile, two roasts baked to perfection – food for tomorrow. While over at the supermarket, I managed to drop my Really Necessary Sunglasses, but a good shopper turned them into the courtesy counter, so walking home with my eyes wide shut was avoided. The car, obviously, was off for a road trip, or I could have faked my photophobia (rapid blinking, squinting and a hand on the orbit all work).
