When the government is (quote) Neanderthal

posted in environment |

The family might be muzzled, but it doesn’t stop the neighbours from talking. Take that, current government! Although you can stop the employees from speaking in public about backward policies, scientists from other countries are under no such gag order.

Earlier this week, the minister responsible for environmental policy was quick to condemn a spokesman from NASA. To quote: ” he is ‘crying wolf’ with his “exaggerated” comments about the effects of oilsands development on the environment.” Tough words from the minister of nonsense. And the the scientist responded in kind: “Well, the current government is a Neanderthal on this issue.” For the record, which will stand long after the extinction of the ‘Neanderthal’.

On to less serious topics. Person or persons unknown have removed a 5 meter diameter disk of ice from the backyard pond (and I am thankful). Since none of the neighbours have mentioned seeing suspicious activity, it must have happened under cover of darkness (that’s how I would have done it, in their place). Now I’ll have to wait for many, many months (I hope) before I get another stock of emergency ice. So practical to have around, in case of warm pop, or twisted ankles, or a sudden need to skate or curl in one place.

I take pleasure in small things. The bus arriving on time and having a free seat on  the shady side is better than… you fill in the blank. Make this metaphor your own.

The book on the local tramway system has been read, from cover to cover. I shared the pictures with others who appreciate the static nature of this city.
