I’m not a fair weather tourist
I’m not a fair weather tourist. You know who I mean. The ones that have already rolled up the awnings on their mobile palaces and left the campground. Just because it was pouring rain this morning is no reason to despair. It can’t rain for too long, or this would be a couple of high spots in a very large gulf. We’re dry, we’re calm, we’re goin’ to ‘town.
Smitty’s was there to welcome me with the Meatlovers’ Skillet. And coffee, bottomless. Some things are so dependable. And after that was over, the rain had ceased, so we went to the campus to shop. Only one store, so perhaps shopping is overkill. And still no clothing with the “real” UPEI logo. If only. My remaining T-shirt is getting a bit worn with the years (like me, repeats a voice in the background). The rain came back, but there were plenty more places to do the rainy day lookaround. Given the traffic and the number of cars around city parking lots, we’re following the general tempo of Island life.
This is turning in to the vacation of trying new food places, so I went to the Tai Chi Gardens for a hot sour soup. First time I’ve ever had to trade my sandals in for flip-flops, but the hostess (Winnie) was 110% charming and the background music soothed my soul. It doesn’t matter that son #3 thought we were tuned in to Elevator Music.
I left them to the movie thing and took the dog for a well-deserved walk around the Royalty Wye. Where did all the tall trees come from, anyhow? The same mosquitoes were on patrol, so we were happy to see the car with closed windows welcoming us. And now I’m parked in front of Timothy’s World Coffee which is closed (7 p.m. is a silly time to close a cafe, don’t you know?). The wifi still works, so I’m parked legally with a snoring dog, adding my few lines to the world blog trade imbalance. Tonight, HP7 arrives at midnight, so I’m hours away from my campsite.
