A sense of falling forward

posted in computing |

Today, I spent my time falling forward. Thankfully, the earth rotates, and I never actually tripped. Good thing. What should have been a restful period was anything but.

We were scheduled to follow training on the new display screen software. Would have been easy, if the setup had been completed before the fact. Instead, the morning was spent in a sort of standby mode, never sure if the product would be ready. Into lunch time like that. And at the point where the training should have started (for real), I received a call that a client had email problems.

If you lack mail, make your password easy. Eventually someone else will get the torrent flowing (although you won’t be happy). What with several hundred error messages within the hour, it was time to cut the user free. The spam slowed… maybe by tomorrow we’ll find out just how deep the hack went. For the record, your first name isn’t a great choice for your password.

Several video conferences, each requiring special setups; again, a sense of falling forward until quitting time.

The temperature dropped during the day. From seasonal to downright uncomfortable. Even the dog seemed to have found more focus. The usual beseeching to “go around the tree” required only one request, and he actually skidded on the front doorstep. Cold can do that.

I’m contemplating the purchase of a coffee bean grinder. Yes, the store will grind stuff for me, but with a counter machine I will be protected against using supermarket powder when I finally relocate.
