Celebrating the first .ca domain

posted in history, media |

When I was younger, I didn’t even know where the Rock was. Now I watch their weather stories. And boy, ob boy, do they get weather! Summer, fall, winter with a vengeance. Blizzard today with half a metre of snow moving at speeds not legal on the highway. I’m glad we dodged that bullet, although the freezing rain warning we’ve received as a compromise gives pause.

Charlottetown’s own Martha MacIsaac made her prime time series debut this evening. Two episodes of a light comedy called 1600 Penn. With only an hour of content available, it’s too early to predict the staying power of the series (Jenna Elfman won’t hurt the chances). For what it’s worth, Martha sounds like an Island girl…

Son #3 received a phone call today, from me. Not exactly my fault. We were talking about Bluetooth and voice recognition in the office, and I admitted that I hadn’t really tried using my phone in that way, even after four months of getting used to things. And so I told the phone to call, and it did, and I had to apologize for emulation of an alarm clock. I’ll stick to tried and true; tapping on the screen. Too shy to walk around talking to my hand…

I forget when I first applied for an Internet domain. Somewhere, there’s a record. It wasn’t as early as UPEI, which celebrates 25 years since their registratration. To be fair, they were first in Canada, and that conveys geek bragging rights. At some point shortly after, (maybe the following summer), a friend demonstrated the PING command. I didn’t fully seize the significance, then.
