Musing about the state of swing

posted in politics |

Like many of my tribe (geeks), I like to accessorize my technical stuff. No finished packages need apply; the fun is in putting all the little parts together to make something that is greater. Gestalt for geeks.

And so, with a few minutes to kill before supper, I headed off to the local dollar store (where all the good stuff costs $2). Where else could I purchase a high quality HDMI cable and a multi-port USB extender, with change back from my tenspot. Magical. With that part done, I headed over to the neighbouring box store, to acquire a 8 GB SDHC card for less than $8. Proof that it was stupid to spend so much on technology, before. All I had to do was wait (until now) for things to get really cheap.

All this, as I mentioned, to accessorize. Think of it as meringue for the raspberry pi…

With only days left to run in the American presidential campaign, the ads are hitting above, below and beside the proverbial belt. All ads are carefully identified: did the candidate pay for this, or did someone offer to pick up the tab, this time around? I’m unfamiliar with the ground, but the term “swing state” keeps coming up. Is this an allusion to preferences in dance style, or a penchant for pendulums on the playground? I’m keeping an eye on things, in case there has been an evolution in exercise. And when things are all over, and the election has gone to the highest bidder (yes, there are already predictions as to how the vote will be bought), I’ll probably watch some baseball. Or not.
