Shopping blind(s)

posted in economy |

Noticed in passing: going to work takes up valuable time that could be put to other purposes.

And with that as a starting point, we had to wait for this evening to go curtain shopping. Curtain being the old-fashioned, generic term for window coverings, because once we got into the marketplace, we learned that there are many other options out there. Mind you, green garbage bags fastened with duct tape no longer hold the attention of shoppers. Instead, the trend involved blinds, either vertical or horizontal, in a dizzying array of colours and textures.

Happily, the staff in our store (we are repeat clients, so the possessive article is used properly), are trained with eliciting the necessary details from a potential customer. We came prepared: measurements in both Imperial and metric, and a few photos of the setting. Not sufficient. A series of phone calls and text messages were required, to get son #3 and a handy tape measure involved. Details, details.

I didn’t realize that opaque is variant. In the case of “not opaque enough” opaque, you can add a second layer… sometimes. Depends on the motif and colour and fold size. But after close to two hours of comparisons, all was concluded. Yes, brown is also open to interpretation. And green. And white. There were no fluorescent purple blinds on display.

And now I’m home to prepare late hamburgers, add drops to my eyes (catching up on a day of distraction) and settle in for another short weekend. From where I sit, the school year is 25% over (it’s an administrative chair). That’s good, because the reward will be summer vacation.
