No room at the inn

posted in travel |

The inspiration of a sunrise departure by friends set the mood for today. Get up, get out and move on. Breakfast, a real one with three eggs, a variety of prepared meat products and potatoes, followed by a “What now?” moment. How about getting son #3 into university?

Alas, some things aren’t brought to goal that easily. Forget the academic questions and move to the real issue. Not enough room at the inn. Or, as we called it, residence. UPEI has grown in numbers at the same time that beds have disappeared. Now, only the early birds get to roost, and we would have had to add his name as #141 on the waiting list. Between now and the start of classes, we’d need a world order catastrophe to eat through that kind of queue. And so, with a heavy heart (but a lighter pocketbook) the great plan was rejected until a future time. The next intake starts in November, so there’s a few weeks to modify the plan.

On to other things. We had a lengthy meeting with a bylaw enforcement official. Not because of any breach of rules, but just a friendly check to see if our dog was barking out of boredom or danger. Neither from where I stand.

A tour of downtown Charlottetown, in high humidex times. We stayed in the car, without benefit of refrigeration, to assure animal safety, and then we had a change of heart and dragged him along to the terrace at Casa Mia,  to watch for runaway horse traffic while I dined on a chickpea and spinach salad with feta highlights.

Our stop for dessert in St. Peters meant that the return to the campsite was just on the cusp of darkness. One of the two main tentpoles had broken, so I did a quick duct tape repair to “get us through the night”. Alright.
