After dreaming of more space

posted in computing |

The thought came to me, as if in a dream. Perhaps it was in a dream; it matters little. By the time my first coffee was drawn, the thought had grown (like a bad weed). I needed another hard drive.

The reason – that one of my data collection drives was 94% full – had graduated. A full raison d’etre. With a quick verification of personal finances completed, and a rider on my list (buy more dog food), I was out the door and box store bound.

Oddly, there were three choices, equal in value and capacity. I couldn’t decide with a coin toss. Time to call for expert advice. A staff member was “standing by” for just such an occasion…

In and out, in under fifteen minutes. For $140, another 2 TB of storage.

At home, I downloaded the configuration software (to disable sleep mode), and then left the old and the new drives to share a stream of bits and bytes. Several hours later, my dream was reality. If only everything was so simple.

I’m now backing up my laptop hard drives. As son #1 put it, “an invitation for a disaster to happen”. And then in a celebration of summer (24C this afternoon), we went to DQ for a banana split break. Next on the sign of a seasonal shift, a BBQ.

One of the things that rate little attention here is horse racing. However, a Canadian horse, “I’ll Have Another”, just picked up win #2 in a bid for the Triple Crown. You go, horsey lips!
