New players in the confrontation
No need for an ersatz Einstein here. “Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results”.
This afternoon, the Minister of Education resigned. Her portfolio and her seat. Enough is enough. Time to let someone else deal with the situation. The premier nodded, gravely, and then appointed the former Minister of Education (from about a year ago) back to the position. Forget, if you will, how unsuccessful the honourable representative was (last time around). This time will be better! So sayeth the Lord.
Of course, the current student vs government “challenge” has been ongoing for fourteen weeks now. No progress, no compromise, nothing. The student leaders keep requesting negotiation and compromise, while offering nothing in return. Guess what? You reap what you sow. This saga cannot end well.
Time for me to step backn , turn to the right (or left) and find something else to calm my troubled spirit. I did have one minor accomplishment today, when I “ran” a videoconference completely by remote control. No sight, no sound; faith. And from the minimum feedback received at my desk, things went well.
All of the “government largesse” has been received, and I’ll deposit the second set of curlicued papers tomorrow. I received a rather snarky call from the bank, to let me know that staples are unwelcome in mechanical deposits. I firmly resolved to sin no more, and to avoid near occasions, etc. etc. That was my contrition mode, brought out from a dusty corner of the soul to affirm my belief in corporate procedure.
I wonder, in retrospect; do eight staples present more mechanical danger than a single paperclip? You know, wire gauge and all that jazz.
