Pets on the road
We’ve all seen them; the cat in the hat, the dog in the manger, the mouse in the house, the polar bear on the (disappearing) icecap. Well, today I saw another one for the “now there’s an interesting name for a rock band”. Try this one… Goldfish in a baggie.
Here we are, on the city bus heading towards the university, and at least four different senior girls from the school across the street from my office are riding along with Ziploc bags containing very worried goldfish. The bags even had names, for the goldfish, I assume. Good French names, like “FISH”. On their way somewhere. Home from school. On a road trip. Sightseeing.
From time to time, the odd person rides the bus with a pet carrier, containing terrified cats or sleeping tiny dogs. This is a first, though. Sushi on the city bus. Where is wasabi when you need it? I mean, goldfish are as edible as any other kind of finned beast; I have pictures.
Back in my days at university, a group of young men, (now upstanding citizens, no doubt) put things to the test, and collectively swallowed somewheres around 150 goldfish in a matter of minutes. I went on the buying trip to K-Mart, so I can vouch for the numbers. Not the taste. I left that to the aforementioned young men. But could these young lassies (they wear kilts at the school across the street) have picked up the banner and entered a new generation of seafood sampling? I may never know.
