Among equals, anything is possible

posted in politics |

The election has begun. The advance polls are open today, wherein those who detest standing in line with a group of strangers on “the real day” can show up a week early and mark a ballot form. I guess that anyone who goes early does not count among the undecided in the various polls, which currently show the three major parties (provincially) running a dead heat. I am decided, and I have made my choice.

For those who are still perched on the fence, it’s become a little more difficult. One party has yet to release its platform; apparently the deposition of a Federal Budget tomorrow afternoon is needed. One bit of caution; a budget is simply an intention to spend, and this minority government is already prepared to begin its own purgatory of campaigning. I wouldn’t want to base my own platform on such tentative foundations.

Another has avowed to hold a referendum EVEN WITH a minority government. I guess the intention to drive the rest of us crazy doesn’t require any link to reality. Perhaps a few of the fence-sitters will stop acting like brainless birds and make a choice that is informed. Probably not.

The third party is still finding boogie monsters under every bed. We know, we’re not safe with anybody any more. Not even your team. It’s all rather depressing. Just remember, among equals, anything is possible. Or in French, the Cowboys Fringants have a song for the situation: Attache Ta Tuque!
