More notes from the Big City experience

posted in travel |

Another day in the exciting life of… no; another exciting day in the life of… there, that sets the tone for my second day in the Big City. Unaccompanied, I set  in search of sustenance and adventure, and managed one of the two.

Coffee and croissant. Food court fare, but I did have my own table and the temperature was much better than I might have found in a public place. Kills bacteria, etc. And with my energy level restored, I decided to spend more time measuring the sidewalks of the city. A chance to cover the territory I’d grown familiar with back in the late ’70s.

Street names don’t change. Buildings do. If I’d arrived here in a time machine, I wouldn’t have been able to go on store front recognition skills. Lots of new towers. Bixi bikes. A bus from UPEI (really). In a moment of madness, I invested in a box of NanoDots. And then I retreated to the safety of a FB chat session. Sister sold her house!

My partner returned from her appointed workshops and we set out to find a juggling store. Found it, too. Used the iPhone to get particulars and made the requested purchase of a bag of balls. With a few years of committed practice, I could join the circus. Or, get committed.

Back in the city centre, another movie theatre made the siren call, and we watched the new George Clooney politiflic, The Ides Of March. A movie that recognizes the character flaw of the politician for what it is: universal. There is no virtue in the profession any more.

More bookstore tours, followed by the urge to eat. Given that we’d run the clock down to something more suited for bedtime, it was to our advantage to be in a city centre. The first restaurant offered a ninety minute wait in line, so we segued up the block and enjoyed a fine meal at Boccacinos. No wait time. Excellent service. Food with flavour.

With that, we finished the main course of the trip. There’s a wakeup call in for sunrise, tomorrow.
