Shook, but not all night
Awoke from a sound sleep, complete with a dream sequence. Odd. The dream, I mean. Something about being on a beach vacation and trying to get reservations on a bus for some downhill snow skiing. Let’s get back to the waking up thing. I mean, 03h36 is early. Especially when I don’t need to go anywhere.
Of course, it wasn’t random. The house was shaking. Only for a few seconds, but it wasn’t part of the dream. Or my imagination. There was noise, as if a big (really big) truck had turned the corner too fast. I went downstairs, where son #3 confirmed my suspicion. Yes, the earth had moved.
Scientific proof is available. There are seismographs in place to detect things like this. Saw (part of) one over at the university. And now that the web makes everything available to those who are willing to read…
Fast, but furious. As a concerned citizen, I completed the (very subjective) survey on the Earthquake Canada site. Based on my observations, it “musta been a two”. The graph thingy concurs, with a 2.7 score.
I know; a tiny vibration, hardly worth the mention. Except that it did happen, here. The epicentre was located about 10 km horizontally and 18 km (whatever the reverse of vertically is) away. Close enough to be exciting. Maybe this is a pre-shock, and we’ll make CNN. I hope not.
There’s a fault line in this area, which means that a sub-river tunnel is probably not a realistic solution to crowded bridges. The ferry boat remains as a less than “wreckless” way of getting from here to there, should I need to go.
On TV, baseball got rained out, so we’re being treated by the repeat of the Glee derivation of RHPS. Wow! Again.
