Timeshifted TV
So much for an exciting evening. On the Island, the polls closed just over an hour ago, and the coverage is already done. Same old, same old. Not even fireworks. There have been other years when the web content was titillating. Guess I’ll have to wait another four years. For my turn…
We watched the second episode of Pan Am after supper. Timeshifted. In more than one sense. How do they get those people to look so – plastic. At one point, I was sure that we had a long lost tape of Fireball XL5, or The Thunderbirds Are Go. No strings visible, but the CGI pros have been busy. Come on, Hollywood. Real people, in real situations.
Elsewhere in the news, Amanda Knox is free. Who? What? Did I miss something important? I hate slow news days.
Oh, the mayor has starred in a chicken commercial. Not to name brands, but for those of us who have to watch and eat, this counts as comedy. I know, he will give the proceeds ($25,000) to charity, but I would have worked for much less. Say, a plate of ribs and some creamy coleslaw.
Someone else at work has found their way out of the labyrinth. The pension plan is more than an urban myth. In her case, she has another sixty days or so, and then “Bye, bye, building full of bosses!” Only in the civil service do we develop long term personality disorders from satisfying a flock of supervisors. Worse than the military, since we don’t get cool uniforms or gear or the chance to lay more than our egos on the line for the job.
