Be thankful I’m slow to start

posted in environment |

Excuse me. A moment of your time, please. Yes, you, the young man on roller blades that passed in front of me several minutes ago.

Your form was good. However… your black clothes and helmet were a definite safety understatement. As you raced through the four-way stop, without hesitation, I was following the training I received, many years ago in driver education. I was stopping. Given the darkness, you were fortunate that it wasn’t someone else, less particular about the Traffic Act and its nuances.

My eyesight is poorer than it used to be, and I try to compensate by respecting the many, many laws aimed at road safety. Others may not be so prudent. You may have misunderstood the label on the box, when you purchased your helmet (again, I salute you). It did NOT make you invincible. A car won’t cry, or bleed (like you would). Please, if you read this… I’d like to know that you still practice your sport when you are as old and grey as me.

Spent far too long today trying to understand the balance required to use a laptop with a Smartboard. In particular, the fine line between success and abject failure. We (the other consultant and myself) are both experienced at tweaking installations, but this time around (even with several interventions from the help desk via Skype), it just didn’t happen.

I did get rid of the random diamond drops and the spinning circles, but the “touch the board and draw” was beyond our ken. Perhaps we’ll start all over again, tomorrow. Just because we can.
