A day away

posted in travel |

Went to an extended family  supper this evening, wherein I learned that I know someone that knows a dog that knows another (similar) dog that knows someone I work with. Hadn’t foreseen that connection. Worse than six degrees of (Kevin) Bacon.

Imagine; a whole afternoon and evening away from the city. We worked hard to get there, because I had a sudden need for an ebook cover. Too new to be mundane, but I did find one that wasn’t in an ordinary brown or black, and the fit was proper. The things one has to do to get out of town for a bit.

In passing, although the electronics industry has made great progress in developing a sane standard for device chargers (Yeah! for USB), the retail trade has some catching up to do. In one of the larger box stores, I was able to find a variety of adaptors that did the same job. Depending on the “profit margins” of the job, the sticker price changed. 5V for a cellphone: $30 but 5V for a branded (think fruit) personal device $40, whereas a game console charger was on the shelf for $10.

Use your logic, instead of your imagination. Which one of the three wall warts did I bring to the table? Am I the only person that doesn’t want to pay too much for everything? Do the various departments in the big box store even realize what their offerings mean to the average customer? Is this a way to gain credibility?

While on the road, this afternoon, we passed through rural river country. Streams that usually aren’t more than a trickle were running high and wide, and a normally meandering river had current.
