Remotely useful
Another holiday season is over. The return to the office was necessary, as my personal economic model enjoys those periodic injections of capital. No money, no toys. Besides, everyone is so happy and friendly and willing to ask simple questions that it’s clear the season’s endomorphin dose has not yet sunk to those troubling December levels.
At home, the tree has returned to wherever fake trees go for their hibernation . Once again there are enough chairs in the living room to allow more than the dog to be seated comfortably. No more chasing the dog with a muzzleload of another fragile glass ornament. No more irrational fears of squirrels nesting in the high parts of the tree. A return to the sensible season.
New snow fell all day long, so that the quick turn and slide to take the dog out over our ice cap are safe. I wonder how many injuries due to taking the dog out are charged annually in our winter nation? The cover should ease sensitive hearts further down river, where the railway had a huge pileup right in the centre of a small town. Good photo on the front page of the newspaper; maybe the new camera will give me a chance to take impressive photos!
I spent part of the evening testing close to a dozen remote controls to see if I could trigger the camera “wirelessly”. The result, inconclusive, except to reaffirm that we have far too many useless blippers in our house.
