Shortening the list
Their list looks like this:
- Black Swan
- Fighter,
- Inception
- Kids Are All Right
- King’s Speech
- 127 Hours
- Social Network
- Toy Story 3
- True Grit
- Winter’s Bone
In a few hours, the list won’t matter; in time, it will serve only as a question in some trivial game. For this evening, though, the eyes of the world will hold it as something important.
My own list is somewhat shorter:
- Black Swan
- Inception
- King’s Speech
- Social Network
- Toy Story 3
- True Grit
In both lists, no preference is shown through order, other than a slight alphabetical sequence. Fairer, or something.
Let’s cut to the chase. My list is shorter, because those are the movies I’ve seen from this year’s litter. Not easy to get access around here (which is why I suggest the Academy place my name on the list of those who receive all screeners. Even if it’s after the fact, I’ll be appreciative.)
Black Swan: catchy music, but the rest is a psychotic episode. Why do dancers go all drama queen/diva when it comes to a few feathers?
Inception: I slept through it, actually. The DVD is on the living room table, so if I figure out how to use the Blu-Ray player, I might watch it, some evening. Not really a fan of the kid from the Titanic, but Ms Page is talented enough for a detour.
King’s Speech: made a royal seem real. Now that’s good acting!
Social Network: I’m part of this movie, by association. Along with over 600 million others. Pardon my bias.
Toy Story 3: in a world where the actors can be copied and pasted at will, this goes beyond “proof of concept”. When is the sequel? This is one??
True Grit: for the first few minutes, I was impressed by the diction. That went away when the show left town. Now I want to compare and contrast with the John Wayne version AND read the book.
Now to watch the real performances. The red carpet performances. Where everyone has their game face on.
