Twist a bit
Funny thing; a special guest on the evening news brought back memories of my first effort to Dance, as opposed to jumping around in a genetic response to fiddle music. In town, for a concert, Chubby Checker. And yes, he still teaches the Twist.
But let’s get back to me dancing. Fifty years ago (give or take a few months) the special guest on Razzle Dazzle was that same Chubby Checker. Has he changed in the interim? Beats me. All I recall is standing in front of the TV (CFCY) getting down to it with the studio audience (probably in Toronto). Was I good? Beats me. The real story is that I remember the moment, and I haven’t improved as a dancer. Blame it on the guy in the middle, with the fancy collar on his sweater.

I loved that show. I even took the time to order a Secret Decoder Wheel. I’m still amazed that Al managed to marry Suzanne Somers (from American Graffiti, one of her best efforts as an actress). And for anyone who has ended up here, thanks to Google, there’s now a Facebook group devoted to the show (with 18 members as of this evening). Here, for your search efforts: (Razzle Dazzle on CBC TV).
New topic: useless things to teach in school. In Quebec, we have a number of programs that place sports in the core curriculum. One school is proud of their golf program. However, the courses locally are “out of service” due to weather related conditions, so the group is off to a camp in Florida.
The spokesperson was quick to reassure us about the academic nature of their effort, with classroom time in the morning before heading off to the links for the rest of the day. One of the students told us of his career dream: turning pro.
In the rest of society, we call that “vacation”.
