Big plans for a small house

posted in environment |

What about planning for something nonsensical in my future? Well, why not? After watching ads on TV (repeat until done), I think my future needs an endless swimming pool. I’m trying  to avoid brand names (until they call and offer me a sample just for promoting the idea).

So here’s the idea. Build a new house, with a garage. Under the garage, install the pool. It will probably drive up the initial cost of the house, but think of the pleasure from a warm swim just before bedtime. No need to check tide times, or wind direction, or ambient temperatures. Use the geothermal system (note; increase the capacity) to keep from freezing. Decorate…

OK, maybe not. I’ve been in a house with an inside pool, and the humidity problems were “interesting”. Of course, there’s an answer to that problem – I just have to spend a little more time with Google.

We’ve been looking at house floor plans. Best to start, years in advance, because you don’t get to have a “do over”. No comparison with choosing low end motel rooms in the summer period. And we’ve had some doozies over the years. That place in the Gaspé, with a slanted floor, still intrigues me.

The best plan (according to a friend) would be to draw our own, and then try to negotiate for a deal. How hard can it be? There’s software out there, and the standard dimensions of carpeting at Walmart will help in setting limits on our “out of the park” dreaming.

Rumination.
