Four hundred before the 400th
Hurrah! The calendar of events for the Quebec 2008 blowout has been made public. Great slogan for today: 400 before the 400th. Tomorrow is another day. Groups of people at strategic corners throughout the city, distributing copies of “Le Soleil” (I gave at home, thanks.) Jewel cases for the next level of client.
Sorry, no CD, though. A cardboard calendar, to be kept close at hand for the next 765 days. Planning and dreaming, sort of like when the Eaton’s catalogue arrived. A website. Artistic renderings of what might be built (if you have a lot of friends in the construction trades). Bliss.
Let’s see. The newspaper lets me know that Jewel will be a performer. Does the lass from Alaska have a following here? Who knew? Celine will be a performer, but not on the important date of December 31st, 2006 as she has a prior engagement in Las Vegas. Should we tell anyone about the musical ties she has to a virtual Titanic? The Gevernor-General will be here (of course she will, she lives here for part of the year). The Bonhomme carnaval will be here (of course he will, he lives here for part of the year). The air show, if there is no fog that weekend.
That’s just the first six months of the big year. In truth, the jewel case contains a real calendar, for 2007. MIght be useful if I don’t lose any of the sheets. The only announced date is the December 31st, which, I repeat, won’t have a Celine on centre stage, unless Las Vegas finds another star…
