Blame in on bean futures

posted in economy |

It could be called classic behaviour. First, the “pusher” gets you “hooked”. Then, once he “owns you”, up goes the price. Call it retail if you wish.

In the news, those coffee shop people with the special names for their employees (guess that counts you out, Timbo) has announced that prices are going up. Some chatter about rising price of green beans (not your grandmother’s haricots). More mumbling about a volatile commodity market (by it’s nature, coffee depends on volatility).

Plain and simple (not a quality of the coffee sold in this particular chain), greedy merchants will prey on sad addicted customers.

I’ve recognized that it was a case of not trusting the pusher, for years now. Plus, I found the coffee from my home machine to be superior and free from any taint of soya milk.

In the entertainment news, Sesame Street has rejected Katy Perry, because of her dress code. Or theirs. It’s not really clear, and the intended audience wouldn’t have cared. But in this new moralistic world, bare arms are just not permissible. I’ve seen the video, and I wasn’t offended, not at all. I watched it three times, just to be sure. That Elmo hasn’t changed in years.

Right now, CBC is airing a documentary on trends in cloud computing. Someday, you might store your data elsewhere and access it when you need it. I wonder if the stuff in my basement could be treated the same way. Boxes of books and a certain number of “older” computing machines, out of sight/out of mind. I could buy a lot of peace around here with a system like that.
