Midterm report card
Another school evening for the youngest family member. She has been enrolled in BI since the end of September, and when I jokingly remarked that we should be attending graduation ceremonies before much longer, I was assured by her mentors that, indeed, our convocation was not far away. Wow, another diploma to (not) hang on the wall. Good work, little one.
You know how we are. We receive personal affirmation from the results of our community. Somehow, seeing the dog come to heel, sit and stay is worth so much. After all, she works cheaply; small smelly cookies and some faint praise are all that is required. Too bad the others weren’t so easy to get “in line”. I realize that very few dogs actually fail the course of study, but there is so much hope that this will provide a foundation for other, further sessions.
Now, if I could just get her enrolled in a course that would resolve a personal aggravation. The one where I awake part way through the night to answer a scratch at the door (inside). I open the portal, wait an appropriate length of time, close things and return to bed… only to find that the dog has taken my warm spot for her own. I’m forced to either argue or sprawl nearby. Next thing, I’ll be relegated to a blanket in the corner in a complete reversal of roles. It doesn’t help that the dog is much mor nimble in the stair-climb event, so she always beats me back. I’m handicapped in the race before the gun is fired.
At least she doesn’t snore like her predecessor.
