Dim driver, no lights on
Out in the car with son #3, drawing attention to the things that make it hard to be a safe driver; boy, it’s not easy to protect yourself against the idiot class.
A surprising number of drivers have never mastered the turn signal. Think about it; you want to turn, it’s physically possible, you communicate your intention to others, around you for your own safety. It has nothing to do with the physics. And it doesn’t cost anything, given that all cars now have them as standard equipment. For the clueless, it’s that lever on the steering column that makes some of your lights blink… not all of them; that’s a different control.
Another one, and a little more difficult for me to understand, is the daytime running light malfunction. It’s the law, folks. From back in the new year, 1990, all cars sold as new in Canada must have lights that turn on and stay on while you’re out among the rest of us. There’s no switch; I’ve checked. If your car isn’t a classic, the lights should be on. No, you don’t look cooler with them unhooked, and take it from me, not all drivers have perfect eyesight.
If you’re on the road with me, don’t you want me to see you before I do something unexpected that puts me in your path? Your car doesn’t go faster in stealth mode, and Einstein already proved the essentials about speed of light. Guess what? It didn’t include stupid drivers that unhooked safety equipment.
There are so many more “little aggravations”, but please, don’t play with your external lighting equipment. I want to see you before we try to occupy the same piece of real estate with our shiny automobiles.
